Scholarship Opportunities

The Academy understands that not every family has the resources to send its children to dance school. Therefore, Covenant Ballet has established scholarships to benefit talented but underrepresented students.

ROBERTA SOLOMON BALLET SCHOLARHIPS

Established in 2007 in memory of the late Roberta Solomon, a principal dancer and long time supporter of Covenant Ballet. This scholarship is awarded to female students, ages 8-10 who show potential in classical ballet.

2018-2019 Recipients: Karina Shirley

Project Plié is American Ballet Theatre's comprehensive initiative to increase racial and ethnic representation in ballet and diversify America’s ballet companies. Project Plié seeks to combine training and support of ballet students from communities previously underrepresented in American ballet companies with the creation of a nationwide network of partner professional ballet companies who are committed to diversity. Project Plié includes a partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to introduce participants to ballet and identify children for future training.

As part of the Project Plié initiative, the American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School offers a special bridge class  to be held weekly during the school year.

2017-2019 CBT Recipients:  Elizabeth Charles, Klarissa Shirley, Eli Venetian

After completing the bridge class program, students were invited to attend the ABT JKO School while continuing to attend Covenant Ballet Academy.

BOYS SCHOLARSHIPS

The Boys Project Scholarship is the way the Academy promotes male participation in dance. Through financial support, role modeling, and a gender specific curriculum, boys can enjoy the finest in American and European male-dance traditions. The program is available for male students ages 8 to teen through recommendations and audition.

2018-2019 Recipients:  Irving Brann, Sebastian Huynh, Maxim Karanevskii, Felix Kwok, Michael Miller, Michael Shohat, Clive Wu

CINDERELLA SCHOLARSHIPS

The Cinderella Scholarship was created in 2012. It is an award to students based on financial need, desire and talent/potential.

REACH

The Reach Program (RP) is for girls, ages 8-18 who display potential recognized by CBT faculty and/or have been selected for the CBT-2, Junior Company.  Students are allowed to attend free additional ballet or modern classes to challenge and advance their training.

2018-2019 Recipients:  Klarissa Shirley, Grace Pierre, Junior Company members

WORK SCHOLARSHIPS

Work Scholarships are awarded to young students ages 13 and older who have displayed maturity and dedication to their dancing, and have shown financial need. These young students carry out a myriad of tasks at the Academy (such as assisting dance instructors, reception and cleaning work) in lieu of their student program tuition.

2018-2019 Recipient: Tehilah Brann, Elizabeth Mercado

Funding for 2018-19 programming is sponsored, in part, by public funds from the NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
